Great household – welcome visitors friends house guests kids – bananas mangoes taro luau – Palolo

Palolo: The NW is a big bedroom with a sleeping loft inside and a lanai outside. Share 3/2 house with great group. Two green acres high on a hillside, lots of fruit trees, taro, hikes, swing. It is fine to have more than one person. Total costs... (inc utilities, etc.) before student discount are $1040 for one person, $1680 for 2, or $1360 for married couple. And great discounts if you are a student, like $100 each for grad students. (It goes from $20 for freshmen up to $120 for postdocs.)

Transportation – a car is best. Bus and bike both tricky but not impossible.

It will be open for sure by March 1, but maybe in Jan or Feb. The couple moving out has a lot to coordinate and no pressure from us. If you need a specific time we can probably put you in a house guest spot, or in living room, or pop a tent.

You can see some pictures if you use a funny search term - “mhmango” - look for the Wordpress site.

Please send me a msg, or call Ray (319) 321-5685, or email.

The most exceptional part of this house is the setting in a grove of Norfolk Island pines. There are plenty of fruit trees like apple banana, solo papaya, and avocados. The access to the yard is easy trails, and there are play things like a killer rope swing, an imu pit, and BBQ. A 20 minute hike through the forest gets you up to the Lanipo ridge trail.

The main house is a pole house with wrap around deck. The ceilings are high and there is a ridge vent that keeps the house cool all day. Most surfaces are natural redwood, cedar, oak, etc.

The place can be a little busy occasionally, with about 10 people counting drop-ins from other small houses on the compound and the always welcome houseguests. But it is very pleasant, safe, and dinner invitations abound. The roommates are a friendly group, mostly both working and going to school.

Surf club is open to you to join in on the fun Tuesday and Thursday evenings followed by family style surf super (taro leaf, coco poi, refried beans, rice, kim chee, and burnt hamburger) (and other contributions)! Occasionally there is a nice BBQ with good fun and musical friends too :)

Good luck in your search and adventures!

Please reply and I'll get back to you in the order received.
